Kamla Nehru College of Education for Women, Phagwara was established in 2007 as an extension of Kamla Nehru College for Women, Phagwara which is dedicated to the cause of empowering the girl students since 1965. The college owes its inception to Kamla Nehru College for Women Society, Phagwara through the humanitarian and benevolent efforts of philanthropists like Late Sh. Bhag Ram Handa, Sh. B.K. Sardana, Sh. B.D. Sardana, S.Pakhar Singh, Sh. J.N. Joshi, Pt. Kishori Lal Joshi, Sh. Telu Ram Singla and Sh. Ram Kishan Uppal. At present, Sh. I.K. Sardana, President of Managing Committee is the inspiring force giving a motivating push to our enthusiasm. The society decided to undertake the responsibility of providing women of the region rich educational experience leading to pride in cultural heritage of India and developing patriotism, love for humanity and loyalty to the nation.

The college is affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and is approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Jaipur for running one year B.Ed. course. The first admissions in the college were made during the session 2007-08. This is the fifth session of the college.
